Adventure Has a Ton to Teach
It all works out.
Adventure has so much to teach us if we take our guard to be down, allow ourselves to learn, and are willing to be open to what is has to show then we’ll learn - a ton!
I went on this weekend adventure, the 2nd one in the rooftop camper, 1st one with these fellas I met on the ski lift earlier this year (also love that about life). So many things happened on that trip that I’m not even sure where to start but I’ll start here.
It all works out.
It was one of those trips where we planned well enough and then let whatever was going to happen, happen. We off-road up a mountain to where we’re supposed to enter into our campsites and the gate is closed. We have to then turn our gigantic suv + truck around at this tight turn so we don’t drive off the mountain. We make it, while screaming “oh, oooohhh” out the window and taking videos of the whole thing!
We have to make a plan B for where to have our camp for the weekend right on the spot. Along that adventure of getting down the mountain and finally finding our next spot, the Tacoma gets a flat and no one has a repair kit. We head out of that spot because it was pretty far back and tiny so incase we couldn’t change the flat or need to tow the truck, we decided to head down to another spot. One we noticed and passed up miles ago.
After heading down I notice the guy’s truck off to the side - they found someone who had a kit and was willing to help!
We named him, Trail Angel Josh!
Not only was Josh willing to help, he was willing to share and educate, to support the whole process with his gear and knowledge so we could get the tire patched and on to our weekend camping adventure without wondering about the tire. From my perspective, it was honestly so loving and wholesome to see the ego’s of these men checked at the door of this scenario and the openness to be with, help, and guide each other through something unexpected. And Josh said he almost didn’t even come out to the mountain that day! I shoulda got a pic of all them!
Fixed and onto the next site, our last and actual campsite for the weekend!
We had so much fun backing our trucks into the small space and feeling so awesome about not hitting any of the trees! My first time doing that in the 4Runner too! And since I have a rooftop tent, these fellas found the perfect rocks for me to level one side of my 4Runner on and let me tell you, I wish we had a video recording that whole thing! I eased up slowly but was a bit stuck, the guys pushed on my passenger side corner of the car to get it up over the rocks the little bit that it still needed! We celebrated! Then we got out the level to see… just to see.
It was perfect & Puppy approved!
The positioning perfect, the rocks perfect, and on the first try!
That was just the start of the adventure! Here’s what you can’t know - everything that’s going to happen or how to plan for it. You prepare the best you can, troubleshoot along the way, learn better for next time, and let yourself have a blast while you’re at it.
Trust.
I could have been all up in my wtaf business with plans being ‘thrown off’ at the gate while I’m in the woods with these dudes I’ve never traveled with and been uptight about how the first plan didn’t work out and go down a rabbit hole. Not really my M-O anyway but my thoughts the whole time:
It all works out!
And moments like these often remind me of my entire study abroad experience in Switzerland where if anything would have actually went ‘right’ the first time or the way it was planned - it would have all been wrong.
So what if you let that be the case for you, that it all works out? That provision always resides and the answer, support, or clarity is on the way? What if you loosened your grip on whatever you’re strangling right now in hopes or desperation that it’ll happen and happen the way you want it to?
Loosen the grip, sister. Life has so more to show you, let the adventure be the teacher.
Cheers to your next adventure, always!
